George W. Pratt is Of Counsel in Buchalter’s Salt Lake City office, where he has practiced law for over 40 years.  Before joining Buchalter, George was a shareholder at Jones, Waldo, Holbrook & McDonough, where for many years he served on Jones Waldo’s board of directors, executive committee, and as chair of the litigation department.

George specializes in commercial litigation and real estate litigation, representing financial institutions, property owners, and other businesses in a wide range of business disputes, involving breach of contract, business torts, and real estate.  His practice emphasizes the enforcement of creditors’ rights, foreclosures, receiverships, landlord-tenant disputes, loan workouts, collections, and judgment enforcement.  He has also successfully litigated actions to quiet title, and claims on title policies and fidelity bonds.  George also has extensive experience in bankruptcy court, representing secured and unsecured creditors, and litigating adversary proceedings, including fraudulent transfer and preference claims.  George has pursued many cases to trial, achieving excellent results for his clients, before judges and juries.

George carries an AV Preeminent Peer Review rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and is recognized as a Mountain States Super Lawyer in Business Litigation, and by Best Lawyers in America, for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law, and Litigation-Bankruptcy (2024 & 2025).

 

Mr. Pratt earned his J.D. in 1981, from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he was a member of the Utah Law Review.  Following graduation he clerked for Judge Aldon Anderson, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah.  He received his B.A. in 1976 from Yale University.
