Commercial real estate lawyer and advisor Jed Burton closes business-critical deals for clients with real property investments nationwide. He steers, structures and negotiates acquisitions, dispositions, and ground and commercial leases for publicly traded self-storage companies and big-box and drive-thru retailers, among other clients. Additionally, Jed has crafted and structured bridge lending programs for real estate investment trust (REIT) clients as well as represented other borrowers and lenders in mortgage loans.
Many of Jed’s clients have active real estate portfolios and a high volume of complex transactions. They rely on his advice, counsel and sophisticated yet practical solutions for deal roadblocks and risk mitigation. Jed’s deal footprint spans more than 35 states.
Jed offers a deep understanding of his clients’ business challenges and goals. He draws from a substantial tenure as in-house counsel at a leading self-storage company, overseeing real property transactions during tremendous growth in the company—and storage industry. He led a high volume of critical transactions to smooth closing amid a competitive landscape.
Appreciated by his clients for never overlawyering a good opportunity in the name of risk control, Jed provides a steady, reasonable and strategic deal environment. His keen focus on business objectives keeps deals on track. His deal style is mindful of long-term impacts, such as protection of his clients’ reputations in the markets, reduction of litigation threats, and prevention of the need to renegotiate.
A past chair of the Real Property Section of the Utah State Bar, Jed served as the executive editor of the BYU Law Review, and earned his J.D. cum laude from J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.
Most recently, Jed received recognition from Chambers USA as a leader in the field of Real Estate.
