Michael B. Fisher serves as the Firm’s Associate General Counsel–Litigation in the Los Angeles office. Prior to joining Buchalter in 2004, Mr. Fisher was a litigation attorney with the law firms of Stroock, Stroock and Lavan, LLP and Heller Ehrman, LLP. Mr. Fisher has significant experience in handling complex litigation for healthcare clients including physician groups, ambulatory surgery centers, and med spas. Mr. Fisher’s areas of emphasis include contract disputes, healthcare reimbursement, business disputes, unfair competition, and deceptive trade practices.  Mr. Fisher has significant experience in the area of health billing and coding issues.

In addition, Mr. Fisher has extensive experience in representing financial institutions and financial services companies, including commercial banks, residential lenders, sub–prime lenders, credit card issuers, and investment banks.  Mr. Fisher’s areas of emphasis include, construction finance and defect litigation, creditors’ rights and fair debt collection practices, and employment disputes.

Mr. Fisher was named a 2009 Southern California Super Lawyer Rising Star by Law & Politics and Los Angeles magazines.

  • Defense of lender against $20 million claim for fraud and breach of contract relating to failed residential development project.
  • Plaintiff’s verdict in two-week jury trial in the amount of $2.5 million.
  • Defense of construction defect arbitration and award of $300,000 in fees and costs.
  • $7 million judgment for lender in fraud case which garnered national notoriety and ultimately led to the conviction of defendant on federal bank fraud charges.
  • Defense of lender in federal multi-district litigation involving over 250 separate cases alleging violations of the Federal Truth in Lending Act and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act.
  • Defense of national retailer in class action seeking over $10 billion in damages for purported violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
  • Defense of consumer fraud suit seeking damages in excess of $500 million against major credit card issuer.
  • Defense of finance management companies for purported mismanagement on clients’ multi-million dollar assets.

Mr. Fisher earned his J.D. cum laude, at The University of California College of the Law, San Francisco. While in law school, Mr. Fisher was a member of the Thurston Honor Society, was awarded a Certificate of Merit for Moot Court Oral Argument, and worked as note editor for the UC Law SF (fka Hastings) Constitutional Law Quarterly. Mr. Fisher received his B.A. degree in Psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
