Michael Tait is an Attorney in the Firm’s Salt Lake City office and a member of the Intellectual Property practice group. Mr. Tait’s practice focuses on protecting intellectual property associated with trademarks, copyrights, and patents, including the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications for inventions in the electrical, computer, and mechanical arts. His educational background and professional experience as an engineer enable him to effectively understand various technologies and aid his clients in procuring, protecting, and asserting their patent portfolios. Beyond his patent work, he provides clients with support in copyright and licensing matters.

Before practicing law, Mr. Tait worked for four years at Hill Air Force Base as an Electronics Test and Software Development Engineer, where he developed user interfaces for pilots on the A-10 jet, created test procedures, and tested new software for the A-10 technical requirements, and oversaw a team of 10 test and development engineers.

Mr. Tait now applies the strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills that he honed while at HAFB to help his clients protect their innovations and achieve their long-term goals. In addition, his extensive engineering background allows Mr. Tait to communicate with clients effectively in their industry languages, rapidly grasp the core of their creative ideas, and explore the broadest possible protection for their new technologies.

Mr. Tait earned his J.D. from Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark Law School. He holds his M.E. in Engineering and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Utah State University.
