Selesnick, a shareholder at Buchalter PC in Los Angeles with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare, said the expansion of beds and treatment options could ease pressure on hospital emergency departments, providing a more appropriate place for people to receive care and reducing violence against healthcare providers.
“I’ve had clients that have had to house people who have mental health issues in their EDs for weeks,” Selesnick told Law360. “That’s not a place to live, and that’s not what it’s meant for. The sooner they can build the housing – quality housing – and provide quality services, the better off it’ll be for everybody.”
