Hospitals likely to face protective gear lawsuits, attorneys say

"Damaris Medina, an attorney at Buchalter who regularly represents hospitals systems, called for protection for hospitals that will be hit by lawsuits from health workers for exposing them to hazardous working conditions.
Considering health systems will already be facing a financial strain caused by COVID because of the cancellation of elective procedures, an uptick in uninsured patients and uncertainty around health plan reimbursement, it will be critical for the state or federal government to address potential liability to keep them open, according to Medina.
'If we want to be able to maintain the system on the other side of this crisis,' she said, 'and make sure hospitals are alive and well for future catastrophes and to provide care for current communities, they'll need some help.'"
