March 23, 2023. After the opening of its 11th office in Denver of November of last year, Buchalter continues its expansion in Colorado with the addition of two Shareholders – Betty Arkell joins the Corporate Practice Group and Terry Freeman joins the Firm’s Commercial Finance Practice Group.

Among her many accolades including, long-standing recognitions from Chambers, Best Lawyers, and Super Lawyers, Arkell was recently awarded the 2023 Bob Newman Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Technology Association. In her legal practice, she leverages extensive corporate finance and M&A transactional experience to guide companies through the entire corporate lifecycle, from formation through growth and planned exit. Her clients include established and emerging growth companies as well as venture capital and other private equity funds.
Arkell also regularly acts as outside counsel to companies and their boards of directors advising on corporate governance issues, strategic plans, equity and debt financing, and mergers and acquisitions. She draws on considerable involvement with community and nonprofit organizations, including membership on numerous boards, to deliver prudent guidance and advice to management teams.

Freeman has decades of experience in structuring, documenting, servicing, and workout of commercial and corporate finance transactions and has been recognized by Best Lawyers each year since 2015. During his almost 30 years of providing legal counsel to financial institutions and other lenders, he has provided support and guidance to clients through the life cycle of lending transactions. He has worked extensively on matters consisting of asset-based financing, health care lending, and other general commercial and corporate loans. He has led teams counseling lenders in matters from $5 million to over $500 million in single bank, club deal, and widely syndicated loan transactions. A member of the Colorado and Texas bars, Freeman will continue to serve clients’ interests nation-wide.
Freeman’s clients include banks and other financial services clients in connection with commercial and corporate lending transactions and related activities. He also provides legal representation to lenders in connection with new loans, workouts, bankruptcy and debtor-in-possession financing, and exit financing from bankruptcy. Prior to beginning his legal career, Freeman worked as a commercial lender in the banking industry for more than 11 years and was President/CEO of a subsidiary bank for a major Texas bank holding company.
