June 06, 2023 – Buchalter is pleased to announce David Elkanich as the new Office Managing Shareholder of its Portland office. Elkanich is also Chair of the firm’s Professional Responsibility Group.
“Portland is a key market for the firm in the Pacific Northwest. We are very confident in David’s abilities to lead the office going forward, and are excited to collaborate with him on the future growth of our presence in the region,” said Adam Bass, President and Chief Executive Officer of Buchalter.
Elkanich focuses his practice primarily on legal ethics, risk management, and discipline defense. He advises lawyers, law firms, in-house legal departments, as well as students and other professionals, on a variety of ethics and regulatory issues, including conflicts of interest, confidentiality, fee disputes, internal investigations, law firm dissolutions and partnership disputes, malpractice and professional liability cases, and litigation issues, such as withdrawal and disqualification motions. His clients include lawyers, public and government officials, judges, students and other professionals in front of regulatory authorities on licensing, admissions, character and fitness, consumer protection, unauthorized practice of law, and disciplinary matters. He joined Buchalter’s Portland office in 2021.
“I am honored to be chosen to lead the Portland office,” said Elkanich. “For two decades I have built my practice around counseling lawyers and law firms, which gives me a distinct and valuable perspective. I am grateful for the opportunity to invest in our continued success and contribute to the firm’s strategic growth.”
Buchalter’s Portland office was formed in 2019 with the addition of the attorneys from Ater Wynne, a full-service business law firm established in 1948 catering to a large spectrum of industries including energy, financial services, food and beverage, footwear and apparel, healthcare, manufacturing, real estate, and technology. The combination significantly expanded Buchalter’s presence in the Pacific Northwest after the Firm opened an office in Seattle in 2017. The Portland office has grown significantly with a total of 60 attorneys and professionals in the Pacific Northwest.
