In response to the recent tragedies in California, MLB stars Christian Yelich (current NL MVP) , Ryan Braun, and Mike Moustakas, along with Los Angeles Rams Quarterback, Jared Goff, joined forces with the Southeast Ventura County YMCA to create California Strong, a non-profit dedicated to raising money for those impacted by the Borderline shooting and the fires. The response has been overwhelming as California Strong has raised over $1.4MM in just two months. Realizing the significant impact that can be made, the founders of California Strong have expanded their vision to include supporting the victims of future disasters.
To support this effort, California Strong asked Buchalter to serve as pro bono counsel and the firm readily agreed. Since getting involved, the Buchalter team lead by Eric Kennedy, Stuart Simon, and Philip Nulud, have made a significant impact, forming a 501(c)(3) corporation and taking steps to protect California Strong’s already very valuable intellectual property.
As a show of gratitude for Buchalter’s support, California Strong made the Firm an honorary sponsor at its recent Celebrity Softball Game held at Pepperdine University on January 13, 2019. The event was a huge success. Joining Braun, Yelich, and Moustakas for the game were other MLB stars, including Los Angeles Dodgers Justin Turner and Joc Pederson, NBA legend Reggie Miller, UFC heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell, NFL rookie sensation Baker Mayfield, and several entertainers including Jamie Foxx, Adam Sandler, Brad Paisley, and Charlie Sheen.
Buchalter looks forward to continuing to support California Strong and to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those impacted by current and future tragedies.
