Buchalter is pleased to announce that Joel G. Samuels has joined the firm as a Shareholder in the Insolvency and Financial Solutions Practice Group in Los Angeles.
With more than 30 years of experience in both in-court bankruptcy cases and out-of-court restructurings, Mr. Samuels brings a successful practice and exceptional reputation to Buchalter including the representation of secured and unsecured creditors, creditors’ committees and debtors. Mr. Samuels has particular experience in real estate insolvencies and restructurings, and litigation of contested matters and adversary proceedings throughout the United States. Mr. Samuels joins Buchalter from the Los Angeles office of Sidley Austin, where he began his career and had been a partner since 1992.

Mr. Samuels is recognized by Chambers USA as a leading bankruptcy lawyer. He is included in The Legal 500 US 2015 for Finance/Corporate Restructuring, and is also named in the 2013–2016 editions of The Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy Litigation.

Mr. Samuels earned his J.D. Order of the Coif at Stanford Law School in 1984 and his A.B. at Princeton University in 1981. He was a law clerk for the Honorable James R. Browning, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in 1984-85.
