1 November, 2023— Buchalter is proud to announce the addition of two new Shareholders in San Diego – Jose L. Patiño and Craig Nickerson have joined the firm. Patiño joins Buchalter’s Intellectual Property and Litigation practice groups, while Nickerson joins the Labor & Employment practice group.

A distinguished patent litigator with extensive experience in high-stakes intellectual property disputes, Patiño has successfully argued cases before the courts in 20 different states. His expertise also extends to patent litigation-specific proceedings, including appearances before the International Trade Commission, where he has consistently demonstrated his prowess as special intellectual property counsel in US Bankruptcy Court. Throughout his career, Patiño has represented an array of prominent companies in various industries, including Atos, Dassault Systèmes Simulia Corporation, ESET, General Motors, Kyocera Corporation, and Lumen Technologies, Inc.

Nickerson’s practice primarily centers around litigation, with a strong focus on representing and defending employers in cases related to wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour matters, breach of contract, and other employment-related claims.
His expertise extends to advising and counseling employers on various employment-related issues, including personnel matters, termination, reductions in force, accommodations, and wage & hour compliance. He is also known for his work in conducting internal and external investigations, preparing employee handbooks, arbitration agreements, and company policies, as well as delivering training on a range of employment-related topics.

This year, Buchalter’s San Diego office celebrates its fifth anniversary serving the San Diego business community. The office opened its doors in 2018, and has since grown to include over 60 attorneys and 30 support staff.
